Children Must Complete the Immigration Medical Exam

Children of any age who are applying for a green card are required to complete an immigration medical examination. There is no minimum age exemption. However, the specific components of the examination are age-appropriate and will vary based on your child's age and vaccination history.

What the Examination Includes for Children

The immigration medical examination for children includes:

• Review of vaccination records and administration of any missing age-appropriate vaccines
• Physical examination appropriate for the child's age
• TB testing for children aged 2 and older (IGRA blood test or tuberculin skin test)
• Review of medical history and any relevant health conditions

Vaccination Requirements for Children

Vaccine requirements for children follow the ACIP childhood immunization schedule and are age-appropriate. Children with complete vaccination records may need few or no additional vaccines. Children with incomplete or missing records may need multiple vaccines.

Foreign vaccination records are generally accepted if they document the vaccine name, date administered, and healthcare provider. Bring all available vaccination records — including foreign records — to your child's appointment.
