Bringing a Support Person to Your Appointment

You are welcome to bring a family member, friend, or interpreter to your immigration medical examination for support. Many applicants find it helpful to have someone accompany them, particularly if they are nervous about the process or need language assistance.

Our staff will do their best to accommodate your support person while ensuring the examination can be conducted properly.

During the Physical Examination

During certain portions of the immigration medical examination — particularly the physical examination — the accompanying person may be asked to wait in the reception area. This is standard practice in medical settings to ensure patient privacy and allow the examination to be conducted properly. Your support person will be nearby and can rejoin you after the examination is complete.

Bringing an Interpreter

If you do not speak English fluently, bringing an interpreter is highly recommended. Clear communication between you and the civil surgeon is important for an accurate examination. Please let our office know in advance if you will be bringing an interpreter.

Our staff speaks several languages and may be able to assist with basic communication, but a dedicated interpreter is recommended for applicants who are not comfortable communicating in English.

Requirements for Children

Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the immigration medical examination. The parent or guardian may be present during the examination of minor children. If a parent or guardian cannot be present, please contact our office in advance to discuss the situation.
